Stride Gum – Global Warming (Spec Commercial)

Stride Gum – “Global Warming” from Kristen Bonnalie on Vimeo.

Spec spot put together on a shoestring. As Production Designer, I had many conversations with the director to determine the look for this spot. I was given quite a bit of freedom to create the props (computer console & newspaper) as well as develop the look of the living room and character development.

Favorite moments: the fog machine not working and smoking cigars to create the haze in the room.

The Process for building the console began with sketches of potential dials for the thermostat. The dials were found objects, but I wanted to represent them in a way that did not tie them to their everyday functionality. We chose the Raised Dome for our dial.

After the materials were selected, I set up shop in my brother’s garage for two nights. With some guidance, supervision and a helping hand, I was able to get the basic shape assembled in order to do the detail work at my own home.

All the switches and buttons were added using parts from Home Depot. Lots of styrofoam and floral foam for the base. This allowed me to recess all the components in order for them to all be at the correct level once the panel was in place.

This was taken prior to doing any distressing, weathering or “ice” work. All the components were brought into a more harmonious palette and some of the “shine” was removed.
